Kurt Lewin

educational styles

description

In his theories Kurt Lewin spoke about different educational styles. At the end of the 30th he made different experiments together with his colleagues Ronald Lippitt and Ralph K. White. They observed the power of different educational styles and wanted to find out, how they have an influence on the performance of youth persons.

He first differentiated between an authoritarian, democratic and laissez-faire educational style. This classification was up to date until the years of the 1970th. This was the first try of an empiric detection of the results.

Lewins classification of three different styles was extended by Glen H. Elder in 1962. He also used the terms autocratic, narcissistic and toxic educartional styles.
